Membership Rewards ProgramTerms and Conditions for the Membership Rewards® program apply. My TA is an AmEx travel agent and she told me to get it, you have to book deposit with the card and pay the fare in full with it too. It’s not necessary to book the trip through AMEX Travel. Also, I note that the cruise lines don’t offer the perk if you book directly with them.

Enjoy exclusive benefits with the Cruise Privileges Program

Any credits applicable are applied at check-out in USD or the local currency equivalent. Benefits, participating properties, and availability and amenities at those properties are subject to change. To be eligible for FHR program benefits, your eligible Card Account must not be cancelled. For additional information, call the number on the back of your Card. The Hotel Collection (THC) benefits are available for new bookings of two consecutive nights or more made through American Express Travel with participating properties and are valid only for eligible U.S. Consumer and Business Gold Card, Platinum Card® Members, and Centurion® Members.

For example, Costco only accepts Visa cards now, after switching from Amex only in 2016. Plus, despite the good number of foreign countries where you can use American Express cards, acceptance is on a merchant-by-merchant basis. At TPG, we're big #avgeeks but many of us also love cruises. From adult-only cruises, to family-friendly options such as the Disney Cruise Line, these days there's a cruise for almost every type of traveler. You don't have to employ every one of these tips to save money on your next sailing, but keep them in mind to make smart decisions as you plan your next vacation and once you're on board.

How to Earn American Express Rewards on Cruises

Have already contacted my travel agent to arrange for benefits for our upcoming Constellation cruise and will know exactly which, if any, benefits apply once she contacts the appropriate AmX department tomorrow. We found the American Express Platinum’s CPP was a great way to get additional benefits when booking cruises through American Express Travel. In our case, we got a $200 Amex onboard credit (that stacked with other Princess promotions), we earned 2x American Express Membership points on the cruise and onboard spending, and we got an additional exclusive welcome gift. To use Pay with Points, you must charge your eligible purchase through American Express Travel to a Membership Rewards® program-enrolled American Express® Card. Eligible purchases through American Express Travel exclude non-prepaid car rentals and non-prepaid hotels. Points will be debited from your Membership Rewards account, and credit for corresponding dollar amount will be issued to the American Express Card account used.

Here are my 33 top tips on how to save on a cruise. Each cruise line has its own fine print when it comes to Amex Cruise benefits, so make sure to read up on all the details before booking. Assuming your cruise booking meets all of these qualifications, you have a few valuable benefits to look forward to on your trip.

For example, on my Celebrity Cruises, Celebrity offered $600 OBC. CruisinNana-- I wish you good luck with the combinability! Given that they don't double the 300 OBC when there are two AmEx cardmembers in the room, it seems unfair they should be able to scale it back for single cabin occupancy. We use the X AMEX card to charge most everything, and just go on the webiste and cash in our points. When I get Amex one my experience is it shows up in planner.

Has anybody here booked &/ returned from a cruise through the new AmEx Cruise Privileges Program? But as others have mentioned, that is a possibility. Do you have a screen shot of your pricing when you booked. And may it have been they took the $200.00 off of your pricing at time of booking vs it being OBC from Royal? I dont remember seeing RCL give that much OBC for a balcony.

It's always OK to splurge a little on vacation, but you want to make sure you're not spending unnecessarily. What matters is that you're getting the biggest benefit from your vacation buck. You don't need to shell out big bucks for an organized tour in every port.

To keep costs down, skip the beach break tour and walk or take a bus or taxi to the beach. Do your own walking tour with a guidebook or app. Go on a hike or take yourself to a cathedral or museum.

Fine Hotels + Resorts® (FHR) program benefits are available for new bookings made through American Express Travel with participating properties and are valid only for eligible U.S. Consumer, Business, and Corporate Platinum Card® Members, and Centurion® Members. Additional Platinum Card Members on Consumer and Business Platinum and Centurion Card Accounts are also eligible for FHR program benefits. Bookings must be made using an eligible Card and must be paid using that Card, or another American Express® Card, in the eligible Card Member's name, and that Card Member must be traveling on the itinerary booked. The average total value of the program benefits is based on prior-year bookings for stays of two nights; the actual value varies. Noon check-in and room upgrade are subject to availability and are provided at check-in; certain room categories are not eligible for upgrade.

I've sort of given up on this for my Royal cruises, as it seems like my fare is never combinable, and I used to get better travel insurance benefits/more credit card points by using a different credit card. However, I have had success with it for my Cunard sailings, and Amex Plat travel insurance has improved recently. My travel agent is also signed up with American Express Platinum and had my $300 OBC applied to my January 7th sailing when I made my final payment in late September. It required her to contact someone at American Express to verify the booking was eligible (all payments made with Amex platinum) and then either she or they applied a “code” to the booking.

To see the cruises available through American Express Travel, head to Amex's cruise website and pare down your results by destination, month and cruise line. All users of our online services are subject to our Privacy Statement and agree to be bound by the Terms of Service.

With Platinum Destinations Vacations, each trip you take gets you closer to the next. If you make a new Cruise Privileges Program booking through American Express Travel for an eligible cruise, you'll get an onboard credit and amenity. This means booking through Amex Travel may be better than booking directly with the cruise line.

I always recommend trying the local cuisine in port, both because it's a fun way to experience a new culture and to support the local economy. But if you're on a budget and need to cut costs, skip the meals in port and head back to the ship for meals in the many included eateries on board. If nothing else, avoid the over-priced and often inauthentic waterside tourist restaurants and ask around for where locals eat on the cheap — or skip the lunch and treat yourself to a cheaper gelato or pastry instead. Taxi rides can add up for a couple traveling together.

Review: American Express Platinum Cruise Privileges Program CPP On An Alaskan Cruise

american express cruise privileges program

I'm a no longer practicing, Independent "VERY SMALL" Travel Agent who "signed up" with AMEX many moons ago to offer clients CPP benefits. I've procured the $200/$300 benefit on several occasions BUT NOT the "Extra Membership Rewards® points" (I think you need your own "Merchant account" for that. Hi, I just checked and the Amex website says "To take advantage of this benefit, book through Platinum Travel services....." When I have received credit in the past on HAL, I have been in a full suite and have gotten the $300. It was also combined with my ownership of stock for a total of $400 obc which certainly comes in handy!!!

I have also found that price drops are nonexistent (not honored) when booking thru AMEX. I thoroughly enjoy the other perks that come with being a cardholder but not for this program. However, I am glad to see that others are able to use it. Are you saying these perx are available when you pay for your cruise using the Platinum card, even if you don't book thru AmX travel services?

Actual Stateroom Photos: Royal Princess Deluxe Balcony Stateroom

Ours makes the booking, calls someone at Amex to get a tracking # and then gives the tracking # to the cruiseline and the credits and perks get applied. I am very excited that the CPP has added Celebrity and Azamara to their fold, but I have read complaints on that Celebrity/Az/RCL are not always as reliable about processing onboard credits as the Carnival brands are. Keep in mind that when redeeming for cruises, the value of your points depends on the card you have. Other redemption options can get you more value, so you may want to reconsider using points for cruises. To view how much points are worth for each card, check out the Amex rewards points calculator and select an eligible card from the drop-down menu.

Membership Rewards Points Business Gold

Cruises can be truly affordable vacations — but that doesn't mean you won't run up a significant bill booking your sailing or spending during your trip. It's also easy to overspend on certain travel costs because you don't know all the best money-saving tricks. As someone who cruises often, I don't have a huge budget to spend on onboard purchases for each sailing, so I've had to get wise on how to save money on a cruise. Bonuses that may be received with your Card on other purchase categories or in connection with promotions or offers from American Express cannot be combined with this benefit. Any portion of a charge that the Basic Card Member elects to cover through redemption of Membership Rewards points is not eligible to receive points. The Cruise Privileges Program offers extra perks on eligible cruises of five nights or more when booking through American Express Travel.

Your cruise ship's spa or boutiques will often host seminars about wellness practices or understanding gemstones. These events are really marketing plays to get you to sign up for spa treatments or buy shoe insoles or jewelry. However, they often convince people to attend by giving away spa credit or jewelry in a raffle. If you've got nothing better to do on a sea day, you might show up in the hopes of winning something.

For Cruise Privileges Program bookings, you must pay with an American Express card in the Platinum or Centurion cardmember's name. You'll earn 2 Membership Rewards points per dollar when you book your cruise through American Express Travel using The Platinum Card from American Express or The Business Platinum Card from American Express. If you also have the American Express® Green Card, you might want to use it to pay for your cruise to earn 3 points per dollar on the travel purchase.

Save for moments that matter with Amex® Savings

Are the perx automatic or must I notify my travel agent and have her arrange for them? We recently booked an October cruise using our Platinum card and got a one-category Captain's Club Elite upgrade, but didn't realize X was back in the Cruise Privilege Program again with better perx than offered years ago. In addition to the Cruise Privileges Program, eligible Amex cardholders earn extra points on cruises booked through Amex Travel with any Amex card that participates in the Membership Rewards program. For example, the American Express® Green Card earns a total of 3 points / $1 on all eligible travel, including cruises. The best American Express cruise deal is the Cruise Privileges Program. This is available to cardholders of the The Platinum Card® from American Express and the Centurion® Card from American Express (both personal and business).

To do so, visit Amex’s cruise booking page and find the booking you want, then log in to your American Express account when prompted. At checkout, you will have the choice to use your card, pay with points, or use a combination of the two. If you choose to pay with points, you must redeem at least 5,000. Once you select a sailing, decide which room you'd like. Cruise Privileges Program onboard credits for many cruise lines are based on the room type you book, so choose carefully if the onboard credits are important to you.

Visit membershiprewards.com/terms for more information. Centurion cardmembers get an additional $200 onboard credit on Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Seabourn and Silversea. American Express Travel Related Services Company, Inc. is acting solely as a sales agent for travel suppliers and is not responsible for the actions or inactions of such suppliers. Certain suppliers pay us commission and other incentives for reaching sales targets or other goals and may provide incentives to our Travel Consultants.

Cast off for the Caribbean, the Mediterranean or South Seas with extras from our Cruise Partners. Benefits vary by partner and cruise, and can include cabin upgrades, discounts, on board credits and amenities such as a welcome gift, complimentary meal or bottle of wine. Craft the adventure of a lifetime with American Express Travel. From safaris on the Serengeti to sailing in Santorini, savor the wonders of the world with custom itineraries and personalized service, and earn 2X Membership Rewards® points on eligible bookings.

Please note, ICC cards are not offered to residents of the USA, Singapore, the European Union (UK exempt) and some other excluded countries. Visit your local American Express website for full details on products available in your country of residence at I’m not certain the AMEX Plat perk is even available when booking directly with Royal. I know it’s not when booking directly with NCL. And, I booked my last Royal Cruise through my TA, and that was the way I got the perk. I’ve used it on Royal, NCL and Celebrity and combined it with whatever perks/discounts were offered by the cruise line.

In addition for booking through Amex CPP, I expected to get the $200 OBC they offer. American Express is accepted at 10.6 million merchant locations in the U.S. and in 160+ countries and territories abroad. But you’ll find some stores that have exclusive deals with the more popular networks, Visa and Mastercard.
